Christopher Columbus Campaign

Statement

A national grass roots signature campaign launched by the NATIONAL ITALIAN AMERICAN COUNCIL (NIAC) gathered thousands of signatures.  NIAC is engaged in a national campaign to prevent anti-Columbus activists from removing both the national holiday and parade.   Anti-Columbus activists have been disrupting peaceful Italian American parade marchers along the parade route.  In certain area's throughout the United States Italian Americans are having a hard time exercising their first amendment rights celebrating the Columbus holiday.   And, having a difficult time getting local authorities to support their right to freedom of speech and assembly.

The NIAC is committed to support or defend the advancement of the Columbus holiday and parade on a national level.   Also,  Anti-Columbus activists are trying to remove historical achievements from school textbooks so our children are prevented from learning about the great explorer.

The NIAC and its supporters across the country are circulating a national signature petition to save the Columbus holiday and parade and to continue to raise the level of awareness so law makers in both the congress and senate are informed about the civil rights violations targeting Italian Americans.

Save the Columbus holiday!
