Italian American internment history
The Daily Herald article about the NATIONAL ITALIAN AMERICAN COUNCIL (NIAC) and Anthony E. La Piana, founder & president of NIAC and the efforts behind the passage of the War Time Violation of Italian American Civil Liberties Act - HR 2442.
It was Anthony E. La Piana, founder & president of NIAC who successfully persuaded both the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate to support legislation HR 2442. And it was primarily La Piana, and the NATIONAL ITALIAN AMERICAN COUNCIL ( NIAC ) who acted as the lead organization behind a national grass roots movement to raise the level of awareness bringing to the forefront of the minds of the American people this sad and dark chapter in American history. La Piana and NIAC also launched a national signature campaign gathering hundreds of thousands of signatures from across the nation binding supporters to the cause.
